Kangxi Emperor of China - Qing Dynasty
Xuanye (1654-1722. Reign-title. Kangxi). the second Emperor of the Qing dynasty. ruled during the years 1661-1722. longest reign on the throne in China`s history. 61 years. He was the third son of Fu-lin. His mother. Empress Xiao-k`ang (1640-1663). a consort of Fu-lin. was a daughter of Deng Kuo-kang. In 1661 on February 17. twelve days after his father`s death. he was proclaimed Emperor of China. After his mother`s death in 1663 he was. for the most part. reared by he Dowager Empress. The Death of the First Emperor
In July of 210 BC a grand procession started out from Pingxiang (in today`s Hebei province) and began moving slowly toward Xianyang. the capital city north of today`s Xi`an. It was a royal entourage. accompanied by eunuchs and guarded by many soldiers. |

Liao Dynasty
The Khitan minority was an ancient nomadic tribe that lived in Northern China. They were first mentioned in historical records in 389 during the Northern Wei Period. By the early seventh century they sought to establish their own state on China`s frontier but failed due to the strong Tang resistance (618-907). As a result. the Khitan tribe was brought under Chinese rule. After the decline of the Tang. the Khitan tribe frequently attacked its neighbors. capturing people from other states that rapidly boosted its power. |

Chinese Festivals
It is usually in the winter of a year. The exact date would follow the one in Lunar Calendar. Entering the New Year month, every family would clean and tidy both the inside and the outside of their houses. New Year food would also be prepared. 'Lin Gao', the Chinese cake symbolizing the rise of family every year, would be a must. New Year couplets would be displayed around house. All families would be busy until the New Year's Eve and a big New Year eve's dinner would be served for the gathering to welcome the beginning of a New Year. Children and unmarried adults would love the occasion because red packets would be given to them from all married couples and older generations. As a tradition, on the first few days of the first lunar month, people would spend their time visiting relatives and friends. |
