China and South Korea are neighbors. The relationship of the two countries developed recently. The two nations established diplomatic relations in 1992. Chinese President Hu Jintao visited South Korea in November, 2005, where he consulted with South Korean president Roh Moo-hyun and confirmed that the year 2007 would be the China-ROK Exchange Year, a yearlong exchange program celebrating the 15th anniversary of bilateral ties.
The two countries will hold various activities in the "Exchange Year between China and South Korea in 2007" covering politics, economy and commerce, culture and education, science and technology, the gymnasium and more. The key events will include an opening ceremony in Seoul at the beginning of 2007, a celebration of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties on August 24, and a closing ceremony in Beijing near the end of the year. Chinese movie actor Chen Kun and actress Sun Li are the goodwill ambassadors of China, and singer Kangta and actress and singer Jang Na-ra are the goodwill ambassadors of South Korea. The slogan of China-South Korea Culture Communion Year is "Friendly communication, Creating Future together." The two countries also set up a column of the China-ROK Exchange Year on official websites.
One of the most important activities is a South Korean cultural performance sponsored by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held jointly by South Korean One Communications, the National Theatre Company of China, and the China Performing Arts Agency.
The purpose of holding the South Korean cultural performance activity is introducing South Korean culture to Chinese people, to help them understand mainstream South Korean culture. The cultural performance will display drama, dancing and traditional performances, which are first-class and popular in South Korea. Chinese will have a chance to appreciate the enchantment and fascination of South Korean culture. |
